can someone specify settings for X-lite (something we can all test this with) before trying out on ATA?
I get 'Registration 408: Register Timeout with the following settings:
Please tell me what I did wrong:

Worked perfectly on my Linksys RTP300! Thanks for the interm fix!
Prior to following these instructions I tried all of the other suggestions everyone had on here...like setting the "Registration Expire" to 0. I forgot to change this back to 3600 which caused the first attempt to use the proxy to fail. Once I changed the registration to 3600 I was up and running.
BTW - Mapping 5070 to the machine running the proxy does not appear to be needed. I was able to make/receive calls with and without the mapping in my Smoothwall firewall...good deal! UPNP is also not enabled on my firewall.
Next thing is to try the adding the 100k ohm resistor to the line to get caller id working.
So can anyone explain how this is actually working? I would RTFM...if there was an FM. |

andsmith79,
When you get an incoming call, does your phone ring? If so, which guide did you use to get your linksys working? I have the pap2 and before the magicjack update, the phone, a wired phone, worked well. After the upgrade and using the proxy method, the phone no longer rings on incoming calls.
I'm just wondering if I did something wrong or if it's the type of phone I'm using.
Thanks, |

| this is sort of on topic, but for some weird reason I can't get the new SIP data out of my magicjack to try this out. Last time I used mjinfo, but it says that there is a parameter error. I tried using Stroth's sip grabber, but it just gives me a box with a text field. Any help on getting SIP data would be awesome as I Really want to use this! |

xguju,
Unplug your device and wait a min or so. Put it back in, make sure the softphone comes up and says ready, and use Stroths program to find the sip info again. It may take a try or 2, but it will work. |

Can someone please clarify 2 issues before I try MJMD5:
Does the MJMD5 program work with just about *any* Windows ATA?
Do I have to have my computer running 24/7 to make and receive calls, like the current MJ? |

| It should work with any ATA, because you'll be using it as a proxy. It will require you to keep your pc on 24/7 because you'll be using the dongle to establish a connecting with MJ servers. |

| Thanks for the reply roc1479. I think I'll wait for a dongleless version that doesn't require 24/7 from my computer. |

Awesome...
It would be really nice if we can run this as a service. |

Thanx magicnick - that did the trick!
Works good, although I don't understand why sometimes X-lite will still attempt to register and timeout (408) after immediately running/starting the MJMD5 service. But if I run the service and then wait like a minute and then run X-lite, registration will work. Incoming works great and I hear a good loud ring tone. Caller ID shows up too.
So for now, I have a good working MJ Softphone solution with much better echo cancellation than the lousy MJ S/W (when used without the dongle)as well as a decent DND feature that MJ took away. Surprisingly, I don't need a headset and can have a normal speakers/mic conversation.
I'll wait on the ATA until next month if this is still all working and MJ hasn't caught on.

This CAN be run as a service. At least ala Firedaemon (which runs any windows EXE as a service). But once you configure it the 1st time and check 'Save Settings' you can just run it from startup folder, if that's what you want.

Hmm,
I checked my pap2-na and it shows the following for incoming calls:
Call 1 State: Ringing
Call 1 Tone: Ring-Callback
Call 1 Encoder: G711u
Call 1 Decoder: G711u
Call 1 Type: Incoming
So it appears that it's trying to ring the phone, however, the phone doesn't ring. If I answer the phone while making a test call, it picks up.
Can it be the type of phone that I am using? It's an older handset, wired from ATT.
I also have my softphone set to headset.
Can't figure it out. I doubled checked my settings to no avail. Any suggestions? I just need the phone to ring when an incoming call comes it. |
