The following is a quote from MagicJack admin:
Company's Final Response - Posted 12/15/2009
We are working to have Canadian numbers available for existing customers within 2-3 weeks.
That means by the end of the first week in January. Let's hope it's true. |

so, after paying $40.00 + tax, i gotta pay $10.00 for canadian number, then after 1 year, pay $20.00+$10.00 again.....
well... its still worth it.. beats paying $30.00/mth for cell phone |

That's not the way I understand it. Once MJ gets its act together (who knows when) they claim existing customers can switch to a Canadian area code free assuming that's the first number switch.
but, rules may change, who knows? |

but, rules may change, who knows? | A Canadian number is $10 per year. I just picked up my second magicJack and got my Canadian number and I will pay another $19.95+$10 USD a year from now. I probably won't renew my US number.
The rules have changed regarding changing from a US number to a Canadian number. It will not be free as initially promised. The charge for a Canadian number is $10/year on either on a new unit or when they set up their system so that we'll finally be able to change an existing US number to a Canadian number. |

Talk about false advertising. If you want one, you have to go buy another one, and even then you might not get one as they are running out.
From the Chat.
Charlin: Honestly, we are currently running out of Canadian area codes, but, there will be more to come soonest.
me: so If i buy a new one, i can get one, but not if I already have one
Charlin: Yes, but that is only momentarily.
Me: so you are admitting that you are falsely advertising that it available, when it is clearly not.
me: i could go out buy one then you turn around and say sorry we are out
Charlin: It is not removed from the website for there still be more Canadian area codes to added.
Me: But if there are out when you register it, you are then out of luck and have to buy another new one?
Charlin: No. You need not for changing of existing magicjack number can also be change to Canadian number as well in the near future.
Me: without a firm date in place you are false advertising
end chat. |

there is no "false advertising".
MAGIC JACK expected no issues for area codes for canada... but they have "hoops" to jump with the canadian CRTC.
CANADIAN cell/phone companies are pressuring crtc to slow progress on MAGIC JACK comming into canada And taking area codes/numbers. |

| The website says you can switch to any of the available area codes, with a link to the area codes. The Canadian area codes are listed. Hence false advertising. |

| It did not become false advertising until they released the area codes. I am not talking about when they said it would be soon for CDN numbers, but the available ones now. |

You know, if I can get a 416 or 647 for $10/year, I'll take it. The company probably has costs involved in doing this in Canada as opposed to doing this in the US. It's sitll a deal.
Now if I could just get the better sound quality that I had before Christmas back.
Is anyone else having much worse quality since around New Years? |

Not only have they broken their promise of one free switch of area code as well as having Cdn area codes available for existing customers by the end of December, - it's still not available and they now will charge $4.95 for the switch if it ever arrives.
The product is decent but their marketing is awful and their public relations efforts are non existent.
They sound like snake oil merchants. |

What a load. Bought a new Magic Jack yesterday, didn't have a credit card handy so I selected the option to "Get a free US number (Can be changed at any time in the future) in the installer. Turns out that having done that, they won't let you change it over to a Canadian number!
What a bunch of crooks. Worst support I've *ever* come accross. Absolutely disgusting. I will be urging anyone NOT to support those criminals. Time to register complaints with the CRTC, BBB & anyone else I can think off. |

| I posted a complaint with the Palm Beach FL BBB. Magic Jack lied to them saying existing customers would be able to switch to a Canadian area code within 2-3 weeks (from early December) and there would be no charge. The BBB then closed their file on it and MJ goes on lying. |

What's their site / contact info? I'll open up a new complaint with them as well. More complaints they get, the more they'll look into them. |
