This worked well with my Win 7 64 bit. However, I used the following slightly different command to overwrite both the DISPLAY and SYSTEM (notice the additional "SYSTEM" at the end of both commands)
| Code: | powercfg /requestsoverride PROCESS magicJack.exe DISPLAY SYSTEM
powercfg /requestsoverride PROCESS \Device\HarddiskVolume1\Users\????\AppData\Roaming\mjusbsp\magicJack.exe DISPLAY SYSTEM

Thanks for posting the solution! |
I think the SYSTEM is probably redundant. The DISPLAY/SYSTEM is to indicate what kinds of power request types are overridden. DISPLAY relates to screen savers and monitor turnoff, SYSTEM are more for hibernation and standby, and AWAYMODE which is a mode that HTPC uses to 'appear' off but actually still be on so it's not something most people would use.
If you disable on the SYSTEM part, I suspect you won't be able to automatically enable standby/shutdown while MagicJack is running. Again this might not be a huge issue since theoretically, if you're running magicjack you probably dont want the computer to standby/hibernate automatically anyways.
It might disable things like 'standby when closing lid' though. So I guess if you left the dongle plugged in, closed the lid, then went somewhere, you might have a problem. Admittedly it's an esoteric one, but something to be mindful of. |

Thanks Satoru this worked perfect for me, Windows 7 x64

The following command shows MJ has a request to prevent display and system power savings. If you get an error, you need to run the command prompt as an Administrator:
| Code: | C:\>powercfg /requests
DISPLAY:
[PROCESS] \Device\HarddiskVolume1\Users\????\AppData\Roaming\mjusbsp\magicJack.exe
SYSTEM:
[PROCESS] \Device\HarddiskVolume1\Users\????\AppData\Roaming\mjusbsp\magicJack.exe
AWAYMODE:
None.
|
The following commands will override (disable) the power request:
| Code: |
powercfg /requestsoverride PROCESS magicJack.exe DISPLAY
powercfg /requestsoverride PROCESS \Device\HarddiskVolume1\Users\????\AppData\Roaming\mjusbsp\magicJack.exe DISPLAY |
Notice one command has the full path as it appeared in the requests output. Be sure to use the path from your requests output. You need both or the power savings won't work.
This patch will survive reboots. You can check by running the command before and after a reboot
| Code: |
powercfg /requestsoverride
|
Hope this update helps everyone!! |

Thanks to satoru I have my sanity back. I never suspected MagicJack. I tried everything else when my monitor power saver just stopped working. I uninstalled programs, rolled back the system (but got the magicJack upgrade when logged back in). Then I luckily found this thread, ran the override commands and all is well.
I live overseas and depend on magicJack to communicate with my kids and grandkids in the states.
I hope magicJack takes this all to heart, but in the meantime, the fix works and I still love my magicJack!
BTW - I have a desktop system running Windows 7 32bit |

Anyone have a fix for XP SP3?? I can get around the screen saver problem by changing the setting to never and then back to 5 min. BUT sometimes I forget. So is there anyway to do for XP SP3 as for Win 7??
Thanks

I'm with you on that. I'm tired of messing with their Live chat. They put out a BAD upgrade, and will not acknowledge it, and my MJ doesn't work period - no dial tone; can't make or receive calls audibly. I click a number, dial tone goes silent. I can talk to no one. This started after their last update. I'm still waiting for an "email" solution from their Engineers. Still no email. Time to go back and reactivate my cell phone service. |

I don't have XP handy right now but I can try to recommend a few things that might work. Which ever method works, you will need to then schedule that in that Task Scheduler to run every hour, or you can put it into your startup and put in a 5-10 minute delay so that MagicJack runs first, then your script runs.
powercfg /query
<take note whats in the "Name" field>
powercfg /change "<Name field>" /monitor-timeout-dc 15
powercfg /change "<Name field>" /monitor-timeout-dc 0
You can change the 0 to whatever the "Turn off monitor (DC)" field was originally. Hopefully this will 'blip' the settings
If not then it's probably editing your registry. You'll need to take a look then in HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop\ScreenSaverTimeout. See if setting that to 0 then to the original value fixes the problem. Then you can create a script to import a .reg file based on that key
If I have some time later today I'll muck around with my MagicJack on an old XP laptop and see what can be done. |

| Another method might be to set up a local group policy for the display timeout settings and such. Those setting 'usually' can't be adjusted by the user, so Magic Jack wouldn't be able to hijack them theoretically. I'll try that method out as well when I have a chance |

Thank you very much. I mean sure I do not have the problems Win 7 users had as I can get my monitor to power down in 5 min, but unless I remember to do it manually every time it doesnt.
Thanks again for your help.

I did the following to fix the issue in Vista. I am running Vista Home Premium 32bit.
Go to the CMD prompt and type the following:
powercfg -devicequery all_devices
(Now look for the MagicJack device, it was listed as "PHONE" on mine. You can always unplug the MagicJack and run the command above again to see if the device in question disappears.) Next type (replacing "PHONE" with the name your computer lists):
powercfg -devicedisablewake PHONE
That should fix it. Rember to be logged in as an administrator. It came back to state the following, "You do not have permission to enable or disable device wake." However, it is working on my PC now. Hope this helps! |

Here's the commands for powercfg under XP. Perhaps you or someone can come up with commands needed under XP.
http://ss64.com/nt/powercfg-xp.html
I'm no expert, but I would think this command would tell you the device name of magicJack running.
powercfg /devicequery wake_programmable
if not try
powercfg /devicequery wake_armed
If you see the magicJack device you could try this to disable it from waking the computer:
powercfg /deviceDisableWake devicename |
