I just chatted with "Dudley."

After recovering from the laughable name with spotty Engrish, he said that at the latest it will available August 9th.

I say it's BS.

I recommend that you do NOT believe any dates in the FAQ or that support gives you... one day you may actually be able to port your number over to mj, but don't believe it until it actually is happening!

I have ported my number over to Call Centric as an incoming only line, and I call forward it to my mj number, and use mj for all my outgoing calls. Call Centric has excellent support and excellent quality. Even if mj starts offering number porting, I will keep my number with call centric due to mj's poor/unreliable support.

Gary Leonard: Two years ago we were told "Coming soon". Now I'm being told "Coming soon". Your track record is a little iffy. Can you please give me a more reliable date?

Adam: I understand you Gary. We are working to give you the option to transfer or "port" your existing local phone number to magicJack however, we do not have the exact date when this new feature will be available.

Adam: As of the moment we do not have further details about this new feature.

Adam: We are receiving the same information here.

Gary Leonard: I have been on many forums and we (MagicJack users) all share the same problem. we bought it because you said porting was "coming soon" so we all thought magicJack would save us money. Two years later, we have all been paying our old phone bills AND our new bills. You said it was coming in August, first week. It isn't here, so you deceived us again. Please read the users forums. NOBODY BELIEVES YOU ANYMORE!!! I don't either.

Gary Leonard: What I am looking for is a bit of truth regarding the real date porting is expected.

Gary Leonard: I strongly suspect I am not going to get it.

Here is some possible good news MJ just announced a service called Magictalk that will be free voip. I've seen people on here ask if they can use their magic jack without being plugged in. Here it is. The article also says that you can port your number to Magic Talk, and that it is a feature coming soon to Magic Jack.

Hopefully we are seeing the end of the tunnel to allow porting for MJ.

Can someone tell me a bit of history about the promisses of porting number?

I recall back then, it's always coming soon. Coming soon could just be planning or just thinking about something they will do when they get to it.

Then there is a date Aug 10. So with a date, that mean MORE than coming soon. There is a target. A lot work has to have happen to estimate a target. Don't you think?

Did MJ offered a date and fail to deliver in the past?
