|
|
Ok, so i ordered my Magic Jack on Saturday Morning 6/21/08.. Obviously it didnt ship until Monday the 23rd and i got it the 25th.. Not bad. SO far so good..
I loaded it on my laptop but nothing was happening.. Wen to the web page and downloaded the update.. Tried about 10 times ot register and it kept saying it couldnt connect to the server.. All of the horror stories i been reading about started getting me nervous.. Finally it went thru.
All I can say is i called everybody and their mother on this thing.. I am diggin it.. My friends say it sounds really good.. One said it sounded a little hashy but not bad.. Probably due to my cheapo 19.99 phone i bought especially for the occasion. Righ tnow i am charging an really good cordless phone in hoping it will sound better..
I must say, I am digging it so far.. But I am wondering if its gonna crap out like some people say after about 30 days.. Well just in case, i am gonna call everyone i know just to get my money's worth in case it does..
I never had to chat with tech support.. I never really had a problem other than the server crapping out whilei was registering.. Cool little gadget.. Now i am not gonna dump my cell phone.. but i may lower the plan.. But not until i have used this thing for a few months..
Anyways.. There ya have it..
Matt
PS.. The problems people are having must be due to system incompatibilities or operator error.. Cause i have to say this was a breeze to set up.. Just wish they had a local number for cincinnati.. ANd Grand Central isnt accetpting any invites.. Does anyone have an invite they would like to throw my way? Would greatly appreciate it.. gonestealth@gmail.com |

Welcome to the MJ club
I've had my unit for just over a month now and it works great.
A few tips I'd advise is never just yank your MJ out of the usb port.....do the safe to uninstall devices first....just to be safe. Also make sure you have a surge protector connected to your system and if there is sevier weather, shut it down.
Yanking out MJ from your usb port may not hurt it, but why take the chance?
I leave my system up 24/7 with MJ connected. There have been a few times where I saw that MJ was doing an automatic update of my unit. Only have been down once...which was the day they were doing some updates to their servers.
I'm sure you will find you will have better voice quality with your new phone |

| Since you are using DSL, you are kind of sunk in using your house wiring to connect your phones with MJ unless you run a separate line from the telephone interface box outside your home directly to the DSL modem. Two other options might be to use the 2nd wire pair in your house wiring, or easier, just use cordless phones for the MJ. If you were using cable modem, it is real easy to disconnect the incoming telephone line at that interface box and then, and only then, connect the MJ to your house wiring for the phones. |

thnx i appreciate it.. i have cordless hooked up to it now.. It is totally fine for me.. I have one of those cordless packages where it comes with 2 phones.. one base plugs into the wall and the phone jack. The other just plugs into the wall and they both would ring even though the secondary base isnt plugged into a jack. But it isnt working with the magic jack.. It rings but when i try to dial out on the secondary one it says searching.. But.. WHen the magic phone rings.. i see the caller id.. they are old so i am thinking that the secondary phone is messed up.. So i am usinf the primary phone that is connected to the base that is plugged into the magic jack.. I may try to buy a new cordles phone package.. I've seen one with like 4 phones and only one base that is connected.. do you know of anybody who has had success with this kind of thing? maybe you can tell me a good brand or package that works well..
thnx for your help

Gonestealth;
Some models expect you to register all the handsets with the base station. This is done by putting the hansets one at a time in the base stations cradle for a few seconds. _________________ XP/SP3 Media Center

I purchased a Uniden dect 6.0 with two handsets to use just for my MJ, they work great and I have no sound issues incoming or outgoing.
Yes.....TWC sucks! I used to have them and now I'm using AT&T Uverse. Their service ppl really know the business and have always been able to help with any technical support issues on the first call. Whenever I called for support from TWC, I always got the run-around which is why I dumped them.
As far as the "whole house" wiring to use with MJ.....no need to if you are using wireless handsets.
I run my phone base unit to my MJ and my laptop runs wireless to my router which is located in another room of my house. Have had no static or sound issues with this configuration. |
