I recently discovered, much to my continuing annoyance so far, regarding every little thing going screwy with my project involving the Thin Client...

that the 1.2 GHz version of the T5710 has two different CPU chips available.

One seems to work with a 1GB RAM Module - uses the TM8800 processor
(not speaking of the FlashDOM here, just the RAM)

and the other "flavor" is the TM8600 processor, and causes the usage of the 1GB RAM Module to make vertical lines and moving dots all over the screen, not showing any text or graphics in any screen POST or DOS or OS

you can notice the screen change from the blinking of the vertical lines and dots, but no graphics.

so ... what's the point of this thread?

if you tried , or will try, the 1GB RAM Module, see if you first have the correct processor to have a chance to work with it.

Look into your BIOS / system information to see the processor type

if it's the TM8600 ... chances are you'll have this problem
if it's the TM8800 ... chances are it WILL WORK.

I'd be interested to know, of all the T5710 units out there, please take the
poll on which processor you have on your T5710

My original T5710 1.2GHz unit had a TM8800
When HP sent me the board replacement fix for my BIOS fault,
they sent me one with a TM8600 Mad
making the 1GB RAM not work

this is all very interesting.
and i'm glad it works...
it means my T5710 that HP replaced,
must have also been damaged,
if it didn't work with the 1GB RAM.

so it's possible that the CPU doesn't matter, OR
there may still be some differences,
even with the TM8600 based boards

this has all been very strange Rolling Eyes

and to top it all off, the new T5730 w/PCI-PCIe Expansion HP sent as replacement,
was delivered by FedEx to a totally different address from the one shown on the Label.

(Stolen by the driver or whomever he delivered it to, ... by "mistake" Rolling Eyes )
(They can't find it now, and the "business" delivered to says they can't find it) Shocked yeah right Exclamation )
(the FedEx driver did this same thing, even to that same address as now, three times, before, within the last two years.)
(i wonder if it's the same driver as from then, and if so, why's he still working there)

murphy's law is real people!!, (or is the spelling Murphies ?)

Thanks, I have 2 or 3 8600's that I will be testing this out on shortly. 1GB RAM will make them unbelievably powerful little Linux dynamos.

Clarification and Good news/Bad news.

1) Good: the 1GB Transcend RAM is sold at Newegg!! I just bought/received 2

2) Bad: I experienced the EXACT problem described by momo above with one of my T5710 8600's
T5710 (8600), Manufactured: May 2005, Product #: PY705AT#ABA <-- does NOT work w/ 1GB, max = 512MB
BIOS "OEM Config Table Version": 0902

It will go up to 512MB RAM, but the Transcend 1GB causes the blinking characters etc. I jiggled the vga connector and would sometimes get the HP post screen to "flash" by quickly, but it was rare and fleeting. I thought it might be due to cold solder joint on the VGA, but re-soldering didn't fix it either. Sad

T5710 (8600), Manufactured: October 2005, Product #: PY705AA#ABA <-- DOES work w/ 1GB
BIOS "OEM Config Table Version": 1001

I might look into the BIOS versions to see if there is any possible update.
EDIT: BIOS is the latest (v1.02)

EDIT2: Updated to include "OEM Config Table Version" differences (BIOS versions are the same) -- anyone know anything about this parameter??

As far as the RAM/MEMORY is concerned mine would NOT work with transcend ram/memory but it did work with mushkin ram/memory...not to be confused with a 1gb transcend flash drive.
