Will MJ be around in 5 years to make it worth spending $59.95? I know the ad say 4 years but when I logged in it then offered 5 years.

From browsing the web and all i can read, i'd say they are here to stay. In fact, I believe they are just warming up. This company is probably going to put out more products. How about a MJ that connects directly to your modem or router. I see it coming. I paid for my 5 years because they probably are gonna give those that have, a better deal on what's in the near future.

MagicJack got picked up by RadioShack retailers so I think they will be around for a while if they are backed up by a major retailer. I heard that it is also in retail at Walmart stores. I cant confirm Walmart, but if they are, the company would be golden with business demand.

I picked up the 5-year deal for all four of my MJs. They're working perfectly, both here in the US and abroad. My wife was just in China for a month and we saved a fortune -- I gave her an MJ and a netbook and were able to talk for as long as we wanted..

Just on a recent visit to the US. Saw the units for sale at Walgreens and Walmart - both $39.95. Didn't go into a Radio Shack though. Bought mine at WalMart.

btw - works just fine overseas.

I'll buy the 5-year extension. Now that I've been reminded, I also saw MJ in Walgreens.

Since it is not 5 years but only four, all what you are talking about is 20.-$
perceived savings. Perceived, because
1. There is something like interest loss
2. The service may not be around then.
3. The device is unlikely to last that long and you may have to buy a new one with a year service.
4. The device may become outdated and you may need to buy a new one(again, with a year service).

Wow 2014! I am not sure I will be around then! If the MJ business model is sound, there will be competitors. I just renewed for $20 because I think any technology is incompatible with 5 year commitments.

I am hopeful that it will evolve to meet our needs and, if so, I would rather pay them a little premium for their service. If everyone was signed up for 5 years, what would be the urgency to improve current service?

Same here, but I got a deal for the MJ with 1 year + 5 year ($80 w/exp 2015), so I'm in for the term. If I was in it for just MJ with 1 year, I would go from year to year. Within 5 years other tech will be out, for example TK6000.

Very Happy

Most of the people do not have correct information about magicjack renewal plans.

There are two plans for renewal of your magicjack services.
1. Gold plan / 2nd year additional plan -- Its cost is $19.95 per year and it adds and extends your current license by one years.

For example : Suppose your license will expire on 12/03/2009 and you renew your license today 20/08/2009 then your new license expiration date will be 12/03/2010.

Most of customers who do not have magicjack think that they only need to pay $19.95 . Please keep in mind for this you need to have a magicjack .
The cost of magicjack is $39.95 +shipping and handlilng.
Shipping Method - Standard shipping ($6.95)
Rush shipping ($10.90) you will get tracking number with rush shipping.

2. Plantinum plan ( 5 years plan ) $59.95 : It adds and extends your license by more five years . Suppose if you buy a new magicjack + Five years plan then you will need to pay $39.95 (For MJ) + shipping (standard or rush , this is your choice) + $59.95 (for 5 year plan ) Then you will get 6 years service(one free year with new registration + 5 year platinum plan ).

Now Let me tell you one thing , the people who have ordered for platinum plan ( 5 years plan ) before the 1st jan 2009 will get only four years.

Most of the people did complain in past that they have ordered for platinum plan with magicjack and there magicjack showing license only for one year . That is because in past , customers need to apply claim code ( of platinum plan or gold plan ) to their magicjack number through their my.magicjack.com account himself.
They have changed their method . Now with new order of renewal customers do not need to apply that code explicitly to his magicjack number. As soon as customers complete the order for renewal through his account , the license date is reflected according to plan immediately and they can see the new expiration date immediately.

Most of times customers say that they do not see one year renewal option after entering their login details on my.magicjack.com . The reason is

When you enter your login details , you are redirected to offers page. The offers are
1 . Get new MJ with rush shipping in $39.95 (in this case shipping is free)
2. Five years plan in $59.95,
3. MJ + five years with rush shipping(Shipping is free in this case as well )
4. Internatinal prepaid minutes

You will see a grayed button named MY.Magicjack Click here for Inernational minutes , renewal etc.

All you need is to click on Above My.Magicjack button and then you will see your number there.

Yep, like a fool I ordered the 5 year platinum plan after about a year of pretty good performance and wouldn't you know on day 366 of use the thing has become useless. The audio is garbled, people on the other end complain of breaking up and echo. I have spent hours online with "support" and tried everything listed on this site and nothing....the final straw...I was told to disable my anti-virus software...are you freakin kidding me...okay...I am going to expose my PC to all kinds of crap to make a call...I am trying to get my premium money back....and will live with the 40 buck cost for the first year when it actually worked.....

The audio quality depends on several things. In this forum you can browse for your issue.
