Well, you can try with VOIPVOIP. I use it more than a year. Great quality and low monthly fee.

As I said in an earlier post - I was tired of waiting for MJ to allow porting. I was paying almost $100 a month to ATT. I ported my # over to VOiPVOiP.com for free. Now I pay less than $8 a month for #s forwarded to my GV #. The calls are consistently high quality. At first I ported to Voipvoip.com just to have a place to park my bs number until MJ allowed porting. I may just stay with them after MJ porting is possible to keep my options open as I learn more about VOiP capabilities.
By the way, it seems that GV is now opening up their service to those on their waiting list.

Just did a chat exchange with MJ asking about porting again. Got the whole, "yeah its right around the corner". I explained we have been told that now for 2 years. And pressed further. She forwarded me to her supervisor where I got the same answer. I explained to her that if they really don't see it happening anytime soon, just say so. Don't keep stringing people along.

I know it was a futile attempt, but like many I have been waiting for porting since I bought the MJ when they first came out. If a company is going to say it will be out in 1 month or a specific month, they should know that for sure. Otherwise, don't make any specific statements. Simply state we are unsure of when this will be available and why.

Rant over. Now back to your regular programming.

Maybe someone with some legal experience can answer this. Is it possible to file a lawsuit (Class-action?) against Magic-Jack for false advertising? I, along with thousands of others, read on the Magic-Jack website that number porting would be available by the end of 2009. That date has been revised and pushed back before. Now it is time to put up or shut up. We deserve the truth; NOT MORE LIES!

Heck, they have been promising LNP back since MJ was first put on the market. Lets see, that may put it in 2007 or 2008. I bought it then in hopes. I have been waiting ever since.

I understand and have much of your frustration, but I am not interested in lawsuits. IMHO they are the root of a lot of the problems we have here in the US. I (maybe wrongly) prefer to believe there are some huge obstacles to being able to provide LNP. That could be really the only logical reason for MJ to risk losing its customer base.

I would prefer:

- A sticky thread regularly maintained as to the status of LNP

- An honest date when it will be available. If they don't know it will happen for sure, then post WE DON'T KNOW

I contacted a tech support agent fromo MJ and asked about # porting. Here's what she said:

MJ: Please be informed that we do not have number porting services as of the moment. This feature is still on technical upgrade enhancement and will take action on service soon. I could not give you a set date for it but I assure you that it will be a feature for magicjack someday. Just visit our online web site for new features available.

Me: wow, but we have been told that now for 2 years now

MJ: Actually the Number Porting feature is already set and ready to release but our engineers are still doing some upgrades and adjustments since number porting is a new released feature.

MJ: We have given Beta Test on this features and everything work well and properly operated.

Me: So you wouldn't be able to give me an estimate time schedule? End of this month, next month?

MJ: I cannot give you an exact time frame but it will be available soon, Danny, no worries.

I've been waiting and waiting and had several conversations with their Help people regarding number porting. This is the primary reason I have three units. But, same old same old. "Its coming." So is the end of the world. Anyone want to bet on which happens first?

I still contend that these people are just selling as many magicJacks as they can without spending the money to deliver on their promises and then, when the sales start to slow down, they will skip off to some country with no extradition treaties.

Why can't the top dog, head, CEO, President, whatever of magicJack keep a regular dialogue going here on the forum to keep everyone informed as to the developments?

Is he afraid of the response he will get or is he just too busy counting his money?
