It will never happen as it would recast mj/ymax as telephone service providers as opposed to their current status as enhanced data service provider.
This woud require them to undergo more stringent fcc oversight and be responsible for paying fees like USF and other surcharges that would greatly impact their ability to compete at this price point.
That is not to say they lack the ability just that it would require a fundamental change to the structure of the company.
Dan...Prove me wrong!!!!!

So then they should redo their FAQs on their website!!!
Because in answering this FAQ:
Can I keep my current land line telephone number?
They say:
NOT YET.
You will be able to transfer or "port" your existing local phone number to magicJack, for a nominal fee, sometime in 2009.
This is one feature that is holding me back from using MJ! |

Hi friends,
I do not want to prove wrong to anyone .But this is true that Magicjack will support number porting before the end of 2009. There will be a charge of $10.00 per year for this service. They have completed all formalities . |

This is great news but when is the big question? Should I wait or go with another option? I want to do something in the next month or so. |

In reality, we know this will never happen. Would push YMAX too close to the line where they would be treated by FCC as a real telco. As they are currently constituted they can skate by ad an 'enhanced data service' and continue to abuse people. Were they a real telco and under the control of the FTC they could never get away with stuff like illegally refusing to connect with perfectly good and valid phone numbers and kidnapping calls to free conference services and re-routing the calls to their own proprietary conference feature.
I have spoken with Dan personally and you could sense the sliminess from the very git-go. Still owes me a bottle of Scotch from a wager we had about uncovering sip details wayback when.
You're right, don't expect any further features to be rolled out any time soon. Magicjack/Ymax are doing well just the way they are.
Mr. Barnum's astute observation about the gullibility of the general publc still plays well today. _________________ Good Luck

The only abuse I can see is the highly misleading advertisement. Other than that, you get a heck of a bang for the buck. |

If I get a MagicJack phone number and am able, at some time in the future, to use my old phone number, what is to say my old phone number will still be available?
As soon as I cancel my phone with my current provider don't I release my old phone number?
