Just wanted to thank you guys for the caller id fix. Now if I could just get rid of the echo and word skipping that I hear on my phone. People that I talk to say that I sound clear as a bell with no echo, and they only hear the word skipping every now and then. I have tried the powered usb hub, and the dsl filter. Actually unplugged the usb from the power supply and my phone audio cleared up fifty percent. I have been thinking about getting a broadband booster to help out my clear wire internet. I have been looking at the model thats made by hawking.

I have tried both methods described in these forums for getting the caller ID to work. Bot the solder in the coupler and the non-solder using the duplex surface mount. Neither of them are working for me. I am having a hard time locating the REN for my phone system thinking that might be the cause. But from what it looks like the REN for my phone is very low.
Any suggestions? |

Any suggestions? | All I did was wrap the resistor around the red and green terminals and the caller id works on all my phones. You can get one at radioshack for a few dollars or you could look into the magicfeatures plugin in the for sale/wanted section and this also takes care of the caller id problem. |

I did the exact same thing. I wrapped the resistor around the terminals and I still get nothing. Actially... I wrapped it around the screws so that it is touching the terminals.
And the problem with using MagicFreatures is I am running this on a Mac, not a Windows box. |

I have a Mac running Parallels 5.0. Caller ID to handsets works using windows (via Parallels) but not OSX on a Mac. The softphones display caller ID on both OSes, but only to handsets via Windows! Very frustrating! _________________ iMaki |

I'm assuming that you only have the MJ running under the virtual machine and not on the native Mac OS X? Did you also have to apply the 100K Ohm fix? |

The downloadable Magicfeatures software plugin for magicJack provides a proper permanent fix to the real underlying magicJack bug that causes the caller id display problem.
It also provides caller id with name support as well as call waiting caller id support. Talking caller id is also available.

| Just so everyone knows. The 100K ohm trick only works on Windows. I spoke to MJ customer service. And while the MJ does work on a Mac, the CID is not a supported function yet. |

I just had great luck getting my inbound caller ID to work using a "extra power" USB cable, the kind that often ships with external portable hard drives. On this cable, there are two male USB type A connectors, one for data and power and the other for power only. On the other end of the cable is a female USB type A connector that the MagicJack plugs into. I found this cable at EverythingHerePlus.com. Here's the link: http://www.everythinghereplus.com/electronics/doublequeue-usb-2-0-a-a-power-to-a-female-y-extender-cable-19cm-62f
After installing the cable, I had to go to Control Panel > System > Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus Controllers, then right-click on each USB Root Hub, select Properties, then select the Power Management tab, then uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" to ensure that power was being supplied to the power side of the cable.
Before installing this cable, I would get "No Data" or "Incomplete Data" on my Caller ID. After doing this, my inbound caller ID started working great! |

Where might you find this fix, because caller ID doesn't work on mine either. I've already downloaded their "upgrade" package as of 2010-03-29, that doesn't do it. |

Well, those folks don't answer the web, so I doubt I want to send them my money! The link times out... |

The site seems to be down right now, which is rare... Trust me they are a legit outfit. Just do a search in this forum to see all the kudos.
I love seeing the name along with the # now when I get a call on my MJ. Thsy have that and SO much more. PLUS there is a 10 day free trial, you don't like it you don't buy it. Cant beat that.
Joe Sica
UPDATE: as of 5pm EST the site was back up...
UPDATE #2 seems Wed the 31st of March is the last day of the 10 dollar price. No idea what it is going up too. |

I don't see how to fix caller ID with this package. I have a phone that displays caller ID just fine on a normal phone line, but doesn't on the MagicJack. I installed the trial of this package, and it still doesn't display any incoming caller ID.
If it doesn't fix that, it's not worth the money to me. |

I assume you tried a different phone?
Also check out the forum on the web page I mentioned as you can contact them and they may be able to help.
Or send RedPepper a PM and maybe he can make a suggestion.
