I don't want auto update.
Just let me decide what I want to do with the service I have paid for.
Every time there is an update it screws up my system.
THANK YOU> |

Why are you telling us in this forum? We are not part of MJ. Were are just a bunch of people who own MJ and try to help others whenever we can. ( OK OK I get it, rant and rave section, DOH!)
I suggest you email dan@magicjack.com, not that it will help, but it might make you feel better.
Don't get me wrong I agree with you %1000. Nothing worse than having your MJ work just fine and then an update screw it up. There have been many suggestions on here how to stop an update, but as of yet none works. After the early Jan update enough people complained and they finally issued a downgrade...

If you're using a firewall or Anti-Vir with user-defined blocklists, block "upgrade.magicjack.com and ""upgrade.talk4free.com. I use various ๖ther blocks and permission entries to stop upgrades, too many to mention here, but check the following registry entry on your machine
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\talk4free\USB Softphone\Options\SoftwareUpdate DWORD EnableAutoUpdate 0 (default is 1).
On boot, MJ reads registry entries and directory files and will overwrite your changes, so if you have xp pro you can deny write permission to preserve your changes.
I don't allow MJ to overwrite my existing MagicJack.exe file.
I only allow connections to the actual phone server, which is a different IP, depending on where you are in the country. Mine is Proxy01.atlanta.talk4free.com.
Also, never permit MJ to boot from "usb softphone" on the dongle. Every time I've had to re-register or got the " lucky upgrade" notice, it seems it was after allowing the program to launch from the "vista only" drive via USB Softphone. I have my firewall set to ask whenever MJ wants to connect. I always deny permission, should MJ want to boot from USB softphone. It waits a second or two and then boots normally, NOT from the Vista Only drive.
I only allow MJ to boot from the directory
C:\Documents and Settings\[USER NAME]\Application Data\mjusbsp
