Hi everyone!

I decided to join this forum after months of reading it, and wanted to relate my experiences with magicjack.

I am using a wireless network with one wired computer (Dell 2.8 1 gig ram 80 gig hd) in my living room, hereafter known as the main system.

I have an old 800 mghts Dell which is in my Den that plays MP3s over a stereo in there. It has a lincsys wireless card in it.

I also have a Toshiba fairly new laptop which is wireless in my bedroom.

For whatever reasons, a wireless phone (I tried unidens and my latest is a DECT 6.0 Uniden which is brand new) hooked up to the Dell 800 mghtz has just never worked well. Dropped calls, voices fade away, one problem after another. The old Dell800 is about 7 yards from the TPLINK tl-wr541g router.

The thing only worked a little better on my laptop-- which is about 10-12 yards from the wireless router.

After annoying the cr*p out of my relatives with every type of problem I have read about around here, I was ready to toss the jack in the trash and accept my outrageous cell phone bill from AT&T.

Finally, my main system (which for five years was a DELL 1.8 set top box) puked. I went 5 months with just the laptop and the Dell800, both of which were then and are now wireless. The laptop seems to work a little better with the jack, but I had lots of problems with the old Dell. I tried many of the fixes you guys offered. Last week I replaced the computer which was my main system for five years with a Dell refurb that I got off of Ebay. It's a Dell 2.8 1 gig ram 80 gig HD.

I finally chose it to run magicjack on it, even though it was my design all along to have a dedicated computer which would not drain my resources from the main system, which I use for everything-- writing, downloading, surfing, career stuff, etc. As soon as I did this, and I am using a wired phone as well? Presto. Not a single burp. This thing is working just as good as a landline. I went from ticked off consumer to instant fan of the jack, because I have FINALLY got it to work..... and it is RELIABLE... for the first time since I bought it.

My year was up a few days after this, and it was time to pay another 20 bucks, or toss it in the trash.

Even though it was a year of frustration, I chose to re-enlist.

I do think the jack needs a fairly new computer, and it likes a wired connection. I like it best with a wired PHONE attached to the dongle. A little old fashioned I know, but it is crystal clear. I spent an hour talking long distance about 150 miles away this afternoon, and it was CRYSTAL CLEAR the whole time. Not one dropped syllable!

Anyone with suggestions or questions I welcome the company.

About to pop open a Michelob Ultra on this Friday night anyway.

My first phone was a Uniden 5.8 gighrtz, and I later upgraded to a Uniden DECT 6.0.

The corded phone is a General Electric model 2-9139A, and the sound is excellent from it.

I will try out my DECT 6.0 this weekend some.

I agree with you that MJ works the best with a corded phone and with a wired internet connection. I do not quite agree with the statement that you need a new computer. I do have a newer one, but I have seen MJ working well on old, cheap machines, as long as they are bug free.
The biggest obstacle for MJ enjoyment is , in my experience, the quality of the internet service. Whenever it sucks MJ sucks.

I have read that an old machine can run MJ fine. But the only old machine that I have is actually a jukebox! It's primary purpose in life is to play MP3 songs to a Pioneer receiver with JBL speakers in my den!

I thought about bringing it over into the living room where my main system is and wiring it directly into the wireless router, and using it to run MJ.

The thing is, I formatted this machine a few months ago, and even when it was ONLY running the MJ (with a brand new wireless card in it, I might add) I still had problems. I tried many of the fixes people mention here.

Nothing has worked as well as connecting MJ to my ONE computer that actually DOES have a 'wired' connection to the Comcast broadband internet I have. By the way, I do NOT have the 'cheap version' of Comcast broadband, and do not recommend it to people. It costs like 26 bucks a month and is some SLAW.
