My Panasonic cordless phone system has talking caller ID. When hooked up to my land line, it works fine, giving the complete number out loud. When hooked up to MagicJack, the readout shows the whole number
eg (303) 751-2589 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting (303) 751-2589 end_of_the_skype_highlighting, but when speaking the number, it doesn't say the last 2 digits. eg (303) 751-25. Anyone else have this problem?
I do see from this forum that the MJ's caller-ID doesn't supply the name of the caller like my land line does, but this is not the problem. The problem is the spoken phone number with the last 2 digits missing.
Any help would be appreciated. |

The magicJack sends the caller's number for the number field and also for the name field to the phone's caller id display.
Since you were using it with standard name and number with your landline, I would try using it with Magicfeatures that supports caller id with name display for comparison to see if that helps you pin down the source of the issue. |

Thanks for the response. I tried Magic Features and all I got was the spoken: "Area Colorado" even though neither phone I called from (LL and cell) were blocked or private and the name/number had shown and the number was spoken (all 10 digits) when I had the Panasonic phone connected to the land line. "Area Colorado" is next to worthless, so I uninstalled Magic Features.
The Panasonic phone, when connected to MJ, displays the number twice in it's entirety, but only speaks 8 digits of the number. I realize that the displaying or speaking the the name is not supported by MJ, but I have no idea why the phone only speaks 8 digits of the number.
I couldn't find any similar problem with the search on this site and I was hoping that someone else had encountered the same problem and had a fix.
Magic Features sure sounded like the answer, but it wasn't.
Thanks for the suggestion, though. |

In regards to Magicfeatures and sourcing the caller id name to be displayed, a real time online reverse number lookup using Google Phonebook is attempted (if the name cannot be located in the built in Speed Dial table or magicJack dialer Contact table entries).
For cases where an online reverse number lookup using is not successful (i.e. private numbers, mobile phone numbers, international numbers, not listed, etc...) the caller's location (state or country) is looked up and displayed. There is also a codes table that you can refine if you want it to display the city for these default situations.
On the separate subject of your Panasonic phone itself, I would imagine the talking comes from the same speaker device that plays ringing. That's the way at least many of them are set up. The only time I have seen a talking phone interrupted is when a ring needs to start before the talking has finished. |

Thanks for the reply.
Four of the test calls were from my cell phone, so that explains the "Area Colorado". The other test calls were from my landline which isn't blocked. Still got Area Colorado. I'll re-install MF and try having other people call me.
It really does seem like a clever, much needed program for MJ users.
As for the last 2 digits not being spoken without MF installed, it happened every time over 2 days ( 8-10 times same thing) and since I just got MJ and no one knows my phone # yet, chances that someone was calling 10 times at the exact same moment as the last two digits were cut off are nil.
I looked at the post of compatibility issues with cordless phones and notheing similar was reported. I was hoping I wasn't the only one with this problem, and a fix was out there.
Thanks for your help though, if you hear of anything, let me know. |
