I have been looking for a way to add some features to my MJ. The Magicjackbeans and the magicjackfeatures both look like good products at a reasonable price. I've been reading the post and can't quite make up my mind. The two features I am most interested it:

Voicemail:
Features seem to be at the same duration as MJ original but doubles the number of rings. But does NOT increase the duration of ringing time.

Beans seem to forward the call to your MJ number putting it in a virtual 'loop' so the ringtime duration can be increased by the user to as long as desired.

Local calling:
Features has a 7 number option for local calling, but I don't see this option on Beans.

Please correct me where I am wrong as I don't truely understand this on a computer software level. Also render any opiniions of why you think one is better over the other.

thanks

Like so many things that are subjective, it's hard to say one is better than the other. Also, I should say upfront, I don't own Magic Beans so I had to go back and review the feature set. The big decider for me, however, was I could test Magicfeatures for 10 days before I had to pony up any money.

With Magic Beans, you pays your money and takes your chances. I do think the additional control over the rings is nice. It would be useful on occasion for me when I have my Google Voice set to my MJ and cell phone number, since my MJ will sometimes pick up before GV.

Competition is what makes this country great... at least for a little while longer. I've posted my opinion; would love to hear yours.

yes, I agree. At least were once a great country. Lets hope we can continue that way.

I would say that for $10 versus $15 I don't mind paying and taking my chances on either one. But I'd like to make sure I have it right.

Does beans do the 7 digit local dialing?

Is Features still limited to the 24 secs of ring time?

I have both and each offer different things. Beans does not do 7 digit calling but does allow you to use googlevoice as your voicemail or turn off voicemail all together. The other good things about beans is that the settings are saved after a reboot. Features has better call blocking, caller id features and some other goodies. It is possible to change your voicemail or disable it yourself but it's not something I would recommend doing if your not good with editing the registry on your computer. For the price I would recommend both as once you setup the calling features you want with beans (disabling voicemail or transferring to another number) you can turn it off and the settings continue to work.

I bought both and they play together very well. Beans' extended ringing along with some other goodies, Features' 7-digit dialing, CID, voice announcer, call blocking, etc. I figure I have it pretty well covered using both.

I wouldn't have thought that you could use both at the same time. But if you are saying you can, then even for $25 to get both it wouldn't be bad.

So far there's been no conflict using both at the same time. I'd bought the Beans first, then tried Features for free and found they both to worked together without a single hitch. Pretty nifty.

VOICEMAIL MESSAGE WAITING INDICATOR
A voice message waiting indicator feature is under development for Magicfeatures and should be available over the next 3-4 weeks. It will provide stutter dialtone when you have a new voice mail message and will also light up the message waiting indicator light on your phone.

VOICEMAIL TIMEOUT DISABLE / GOOGLE VOICE
We have already started developing a new plugin for Google Voice fans that will route all 1+ (and optionally all 011+) calls via Google Voice. All other calls will route via the magicJack network as normal so standard dialing patterns will not change in that regard. It will ALSO have the option in it to disable the voice mail timeout that will allow continuous ringing. The new Google Voice plugin will initially be offered FREE of charge and should be available over the next 3-4 weeks.

Sweet! I also appreciate the fact that the Magicfeatures plug-in keeps evolving to meet the feature requests of its users. One of my better purchases.

I have beans but wanted the area code feature, too. I just installed a script to run that allows the area code feature to work; that is free.

I paid for magicbeans, but haven't used it since installing magicfeatures back in December.

Anyone know if there is a way to transfer the license to someone else?

I am not using it any longer and don't have a need for it as magicfeatures has all of the features (and their development team is awesome) I need.

NEW FREE TOOL "MAGICRINGFOREVER" FOR CONTINUOUS RINGING

Based on all the feedback in this thread and in our own forum, we decided to do a "timeout" and develop a new separate tool "MagicRingForever" to creatively disable the voice mail timeout and allow continuous ringing.

"MagicRingForever" does NOT need to run in the background and as a result has no memory or resource overheads. The only time you need to run it is in the one instance when you wish to disable (or re-enable) the voice mail timeout. Just run the tool to change the setting and then unplug your magicJack and plug it back in again and you are set.

The "MagicRingForever" tool is ABSOLUTELY FREE to download and use and can be downloaded at http://tools.pcphonesoft.com .

Your best bet is to contact the developer from the MagicBeans website with your question. He'd have to work with you on that one.
