I built up a small dedicated fanless XP computer with no harddrive just for MJ and watching Netflix on the big screen and it is working fine other than initially having a low volume issue. The computer specs are a VIA 1Ghz CPU, 512MB memory, 8GB UDMA 66 Compact Flash card & XP. I applied an update from MJ site and adjusted the volume and it does up the volume to more acceptable levels. This computer is very small and sits near the phone and as it is dedicated it doesn't have any software conflict issues and can be on 24/7 since there are no moving parts though it does get hot at the top of the unit.
Only other complaint is no local number so have to use area code for every number dialed, and, people calling us have to call long distance. Hopefully the number porting feature will be available soon. Oh, one other minor complaint which is common to VOIP is that as the conversation is packet based both talkers can't talk at the same time like on a POTS phone line without it being hard to understand; so it's not quite as smooth as a land line. |

I am trying to do the same (netflix streaming to my LCD TV) using a thin client which has XPe and the results are not so good.
Are you using any kind of video card on your setup ?
Whats your take on the heavy writes that the netflix caching will do on your CF card ? Hows the
quality of the netflix movie on your PC ? |

My setup has an integrated SIS chipset which didn't initially work with Netflix streaming. I called their tech support and was informed there was a driver update and after I applied it Netflix streamed fine. On my system streaming periodically doesn't stay up with the video, i.e., video doesn't update for a few seconds or longer most likely due to the slow processor. This may happen a 1/2 dozen or so times during a movie. Quality is similar to what I had on a laptop, kind of VHS quality or worse. I hear Netflix will soon be able to stream from a Xbox 360 which I also have so might try it from there to see if it's any better once it is available.
Due to the small size of the CF card I've had to clear the IE7 cache out after watching a 1/2 dozen or so movies. It's a must to use UDMA 66 Compact Flash as regular CF is too slow. Also, not sure if it makes any difference but I'm using a full install of XP, not XPe. |

| The Roku Netflix Player is sweet, though not as flexible - at least at the moment. I watch something on it every day, and it's near DVD quality video. |

| I have had the MJ setup on my main PC (High end) for almost a month and it started to be a pain when playing games when calls came in. So, I got the old Compaq Presario 5461 (500Mhz CPU, 512Mb's ram) out of the attic and installed XP SP2 which took hours (5+) to install on the 6.4gb HDD. I then installed the MJ and tested it. It works great. I think it works better on the older system as far as call quality goes. When a call comes in or is made the CPU usage jumps to 100% but, then drops to 85%. Seeing how this is the only thing that is going to be running on this PC it should be just fine. |
