There are companies that offer Puerto Rico telephone numbers. One such company is Vox. Here is a link to information about that service. There are others, as well, and Googling on "voip did puerto rico" should help you in your search.

As to why neither MJ nor Vonage have PR phone numbers available, it is only economics.

First, neither company wishes to invest in Spanish language support. You already know the quality of MJ's English language support - can you imagine how wonderful it would be if it were translated into Spanish?

Second, to be cost effective, a VoIP company would need to engage a CLEC to provide the telephone numbers. In MJ's case, YMAX would need to set up a PR entity (not hard for them, but it costs money to enter a new state or territory) and purchase at least one block of 1000 numbers. To do this, YMAX would need some confidence that they could find more than a few hundred subscribers to take up the numbers and make it profitable. Also, I am sure that PR numbers are more expensive than continental US numbers, so MJ could not offer service out of PR for the same $20 per year. I am confident this is true because YMAX does not yet have any presence in the ConUS states of VT and NH and because MJ does not offer numbers in a few other states where YMAX does have a presence.

Still awaiting a Connecticut number.
There are 2 area codes in CT (203 & 860) but there are no CT numbers available since I joined and I think there should be at least one.

Alan

I received a CT area code number: 203-660-xxxx

YMAX has installed 30,000 numbers in Byram and Greenwich (203), between April of last year and February of this year. As yet they have nothing in 860 and nothing published for implementation in the near future. 203-660-7xxx was put into service 4/21/08 and 203-660-1xxx and 203-660-8xxx were put into service 6/1/08. How much of this service expansion is leased to MJ is anybody's guess.

I am also waiting for 860 are code for my parents. I would like to purchase a MagicJack for them to eliminate their monthly phone bill. Another problem for my parents is not being able to port their current phone number. My parents have had the same phone number for 30+ years and fear changing it. Problems like these are what's holding MagicJack back from dominating the Voip communication market. I personally am very happy with the MagicJack service especially at its current price point. I suspect my parents would be also be satisfied customers if MagicJack would pay attention its customers basic needs. I really hope some solid corporate leadership finds its way into the MagicJack's headquarters and begins to address these simple issues before it is to late.

WA state is huge in size/population and why on earth does Magicjack not have numbers in this state? Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

And no support for magicjack either. No where to voice my displeasure or get updates on numbers for this state.

Thanks

Still waiting for more 585 exchanges ... Rochester is a big area here in NY State and the ONLY 585 exchange right now is 993 in Batavia, NY. That is a long distance call for anyone in the greater Rochester area.

In my area, numbers appear, and then just as quickly disappear. You have to be lucky enough to hit it at the right time.

Sign up for Google voice and you problem will be solved. After that, you only need to use MJ for outgoing calls.

I do have Google Voice now . However, there are tons of residents in this area who would benefit from being able to have MagicJack with a local number. Apparently since Rochester is dominated by Frontier and Time Warner phone service, the MJ people cannot obtain anything other than a Batavia, NY exchange and that sucks. So how then does Google obtain phone numbers in this area ?

They did have #'s in washington (Mine, my parents & a couple of friends have WA #'s). However my contract was just about up & i was thinking of buying a new unit for a couple issues that got fixed, but along with you I can't get a new wa # nor I have no idea if I can even move my old # to the new unit.

Technically, they have numbers in every area code in the state. Though the 360 coverage is Vancouver only and I don't think the 509 exists outside of Spokane. I'm in Olympia, but I still have a Seattle (206) number because it was all they had when I signed up. But I got a local number thru Grand Central/now Google Voice and forwarded it to the Magic Jack.

So why can't they forward their Google Voice number to their MagicJack number? The cost will be the same and they'll still have a local number.

Washington numbers are available again. I don't know what happened, but when I checked the number change options today, all the area codes and prefixes are again visible. It's possible too many people were using the device and they might have temporarily disabled number selection to upgrade the servers, but I'm not sure.
