If I unplug MJ from laptop the screen-saver commences working again without any further action on my part.

I too have this same problem with Win7 and my MJ. I use the screen saver set to activate at 1 minute on inactivity to keep my kids from using my computer... while still allowing the computer to run with my MJ. I just spent about 40 minutes on the LIVE MJ CHAT with two different REPS/TECHS and they were unable to help me. Evil or Very Mad

Please post or link to any known fixes.

Oh ya, this so called "Lucky Update" also erased all my contacts and previous calls list. I am NOT very happy right now!

I'm a computer tech as well, but I've experienced problems with Win7 and power functions since the beginning on two different laptops. No amount of futzing with them can make them reliably sleep the screen, or even the computer when I close the lid. And neither of them, that I can recall, have ever run mJ.

Sorry, but I just find the whole thing hysterical. It's the first time I've seen an upgrade that removes features.

They have done it in the past, remember the Do Not Disturb feature?
Of course the one time it was a GOOD thing they removed those damn beeps that made us MJ users sound like a 3yr old using the phone for the first time!!

I've continued to experience the beeps all throughout my history with at least one of my mJs. Seems worse on a Mac.

But honestly, here, did you actually use the Favorite's feature? Maybe I'm dense here, but it only seemed to be an internet shortcut list, and if I need the internet, I'll use my Web browser. Did it also save Favorite phone numbers, or something?

Also, maybe this new "keep the monitor on" thing is part of their plan to "display ads in the softphone." Dan mentioned it a few times in their last investor conference call, like it's still a coming feature. Maybe he wants your screen on so you can see the ads.

WOW great point. It didnt dawn on me they are keeping the screen saver from working on purpose!! Makes sense, well from MJ point of view. As you cant see the ads if your screen is off.
As far as the favorite feature?? I agree I never used it and it made no sense to have it there.

If your trying to say that I am incorrect about the MJ and it's newest update causing this problem on my Win7 system, your wrong. My computer can sit for hours with the MJ plugged in and the screen saver will never turn on... but after I unplug the MJ my screen saver turns on after 1 minute just as I have setup. If this is not a bug and the makers of the MJ intended to disable the screen saver so we can see the ads change, I'd consider it a virus and I assume M$ would too.

I don't intend to say that the mJ is not causing a problem such as you describe on your system. Many people have noticed that same thing as you, so I think it's pretty much a proven fact.

I was just also pointing out that I'd had trouble with sleep/screen saver stuff on my two systems, without a mJ as part of the problem.

You can consider mJ whatever you like. Many people here have accused it of being a virus, trojan, rootkit, and more since it's very first days. Some are still convinced of this. But, I've not seen any complaining of their anti-virus marking the mJ software as such, and, although MS primarily is NOT an anti-virus company, I'm sure their Security Essentials product would never block mJ, as they would have too many complaints on their hands. Further, as it's not truly damaging anything, Microsoft would likely not care. (There has been debate for years that without CRT monitors, screensavers are just eye-candy anyway...)

Any idea what the 'debate' concerns? Surely it cannot be about electricity usage as that is easily checked.

Back in the 'olden days', most monitors used picture tubes and they tended to be harmed by displaying a static image that would weaken the phosphor coating of the screen resulting in burnt in images on the screen. Screen savers served to produce a changing image to avoid this potential damage. Newer LCD flat screen monitors are not subject to this problem.

Interestingly, if you leave the exact same image on an LCD display for a few years, they also exhibit a "burn-in" type of behavior. You can turn the display off, and still see exactly what had been on-screen. This is usually not for a computer workstation display, but more displays that are always displaying a static image of a certain application, or video feed, or some specialty purpose.

Just tonight... Hitman Pro 3.5 for the first time returned a scan that flagged the MagicJack file cdloader2.exe as a risk. I then uploaded the file to virustotal.com to scan and it returned a result of: Prevx 3.0/20100826 found [Low Risk Adware]

Why does Hitman Pro 3.5 return results as "RISK" now when it never did before? Did something else change in this update that we are unaware of?

Here is a screen snap of the findings: http://i33.tinypic.com/16bm0xg.jpg

Screen Saver works just fine for me. I run MJ as a service no problem with the screen saver. I am running Windows 7 64Bit. AMD Phenom II X6 8GB RAM

Take note, sometimes it is the MotherBaord and BIOS may need to be tweak?

UPDATE - When speaking online recently with MJ tech support about a different problem (link below), I mentioned the previous screen saver / log-out problem mentioned above and I was told that it had been corrected. I was given a link to download a MJ update to correct the problem and yes it did correct the screen saver / log-out problem on my system. Now if they would fix my most recent problem http://www.magicjacksupport.com/3-busy-signals-then-hangs-up-t9834.html (this one being a network problem) I would be a happy customer. Cool

Don't for sure how you know what version of the software I have but in my zone alarm it shows 2.0.5582.3903 and the date is 9-20-210. It is under "Majic Jack upgrade" A few "lucky You" upgrade after the loss of contacts issue my monitor started again to go into standby as set up under power manager automatically with out having to go in and set "none" and then a time. This is the way it used to work.
