| Until or unless the FCC invalidates MJ's claim to be an internet "multimedia experience" and not a telephone service, LNP won't happen. Earlier in this thread I explained the logistical and financial details for this finding. |

| Has anyone come across a inexpensive company that will take over an existing phone number and then forward all the calls to the MJ number? This seems like the only real alternative ATM to keeping an existing number. The cheapest providers I could find on the Internet seem to charge about 100 dollars per year to provide this kind of service. |

I've been using parkmyphone.com to hold my number while waiting for LNP. MJ effectively costs me $5 a month now, plus the bother, but still cheaper than Qwest. _________________ JimW |

Onesuite. Free port, $3 a month including incoming. No need to forward, just use Magicjack for outgoing and your ported number on Onesuite for incoming. Plus unlimited voicemail.
Parkmynumber is $15 port fee plus $3, for no calls, no voicemail, just to hold your number and give callers a message - doesnt seem like a good deal at all. Not sure whats included for the $5 option but still think Onesuite is a better deal - providing they can successfully port your number of course.
PM me for more info. |

I wonder if MJ will let you keep your old MJ number when the dongle eventually gives up the ghost? I've heard that they can fail after a while and would really like to keep my current number.
I'd hope they wouldn't even charge for that, but I'd be willing to pay a nominal fee. |

Number porting is scheduled by June 21st. See
http://blog.laptopmag.com/magicjack-scoop-new-features-new-device-coming-in-2009-2010
Article posted April 21st, 2009 says "Number-porting: One of magicJack’s most requested features, the ability to transfer existing numbers to magicJack, should arrive “within the next 60 days.” This will be available to both current and new magicJacks."
So, that's how I come up with June 21st. Based on past promises by magicJack, I doubt there will be porting this year. |

I've been slowly changing all of my contact information with family and vendors to use my google voice (used to be grandcentral) number for incoming and use mj for outgoing.
You register any and all of your phone numbers with google voice and when someone dials your google voice number all of your registered phones will ring till you pick one of them up or it goes to voice mail. Pretty cool.
I still want to port my main number just in case someone fell through the cracks and didn't get an update from me... |

I personally use Skypein since I did all this when I moved and needed a new number. Former Local Telco wont LNP.
But my cell and my parent use Callcentric. Two plans.
1. 1.95 /mo 1.5c min and forward your calls
2. 5.95 /mo unlimited and forward your calls
You pay $25 to port your number. Seems to be a reasonable solution if I can only mod my MJ callerid on a mac. |

Oh yeah setup as outside the US for callcentric if you don't want to pay e911 kindof pointless for a forwarding service. |

| I have been waiting for MagicJack to be able to port numbers for 18 months. Every time I chat with tech support I get the same answer which is "you will be able to port your number soon". MagicJack has a loose interpretation of the word soon. |

I finally gave up on MJ for porting and went with VoipVoip.com. Free porting of my telephone number and I can forward to Googlevoice which will forward to my MJ # among others. I will save over $80 a month doing it this way. _________________ samarai |

MagicJack has been promising porting for a couple years now. We keep hearing that "it's coming soon". I want to keep my home number, so I need it to be ported before I cancel my existing phone service. Ooma just received something like $14 million in new funding, making the purchase of their device, which allows porting, much safer than before. They should be around for at least another 2 years.
Someone mentioned VoipVoip.com and uses GoogleVoice. Since GoogleVoice is still in beta, and only available to previous GrandCentral users, this is not an option for me.
I wish the folks at MagicJack would get it together on the Porting issue.
