I wanted to ask other folks having the beeping problem, are any of you using Magicjack as a service?

If using MJ as a service makes the problem go away I can probably do that.

susankasher,
I had a problem with Clearwire blocking ports necessary for VOIP. However, I put my modem output into my Netgear router. MJ (and my other voip) works properly. When hooking the computer directly to the modem, MJ would lose the internet connection after about 20 minutes. So I use the router full time.
Since my signals are routed to open ports, I receive updates when necessary. Even through a company that tries to block all VOIP, except for their own voice service.

Ok, I have had mj for about a month, I just found this forum and needed to post also.
I have, it's not really a beeping, but more like a clicking noise on my phone, I have switched the mj to different ports on my pc, didn't help, switched phones, also didn't help, I hear it on my side and the person on the other side hears it also, does any one know how to fix this??
I have also tried some of the things I read on here and nothing helps.

Ok guys, it's been a while since I have replied to this thread. However, I did want to say that the beeping is STILL there.

It isn't as bad as it once was, it seems to only do it to me when I'm talking to someone. The beeps have just been on my end for the past couple of months. But it hasn't been but a couple per convo. Which is better than what it used to be.

Now, with that said, I rebuilt another computer. I am using the magicjack with a quad core, 8gigs of RAM with 64-bit Windows 7.

The tech support keeps on trying to tell users to do this and that, blah blah blah. However, this is a software issue on their product. It doesn't have anything to do with ports, volume mixture, etc. I have tried everything on this thread, and it seems that certain pitches in a persons voice triggers the beep.

I can deal with it. It just pisses me off. I did file a report to the BBB. I didn't want to, but they never could get a fix. There are plenty of others out there who haven't even spoke up.

The new magicjacks that you can buy at the store today might not do it, I don't know. Because I would think they have a different firmware design.

Anyways, thats my update.

If it was only MJ with that problem, I'd be more bothered by it. However, since I've experienced the DTMF beeping on other VOIP services, I just shine on.

If they dial down the sensitivity too far, then you can't enter pin codes, "press 1 for English", etc. And if they make it too sensitive you get bleeping beeps every other bleeping word.

They try to strike a balance. Personally, it's something I can live with. I should point out that I only get a couple beeps per conversation, at most.

has anyone heard anything about a fix? i have used 3 different phones...2 cordless and 1 corded....and my callers hear beeps throughout the call.

The only fix that can be done is to contact the magicJack technical support and tell them to adjust your DTMF.

Have the steps on this looooooooooooooooong thread worked for anyone? I spent hours trying each step out and also running through the steps with the so called Magicjack Live Chat. Nothing has worked so far. I'm definitely not renewing my license if this piece of junk keeps doing the same thing.

I have had the beeps since July.. but the beep is only on my end..
The person I am calling never hears it..

It does "seem" like it is less frequent now ..but that may just be my perception..

and for $ 20/ year.. I can put up with a few "glitches".. Laughing

Well lucky you I guess. I would have been able to live with the beeps myself if they were on my end but they're not. I mainly use the MJ for dialing into conference calls for my work and I don't want to seem retarded to my work people because of my phone. Wouldn't you agree?

Not sure why mine would be different than everyone else's beeping issue.. but if it was
the same as yours.. then I also be very frustrated..

On the contrary, you are saving the company an inordinate amount of $$ that is
far from retarded..

PostPosted: Thu Jan 28, 2010 4:34 pm    Post subject: Google Voice may be culprit Reply with quote

I have searching and trying all kinds of fixes for the "beeping" problem and so far nothing has worked. Well today I stumbled upon a Google voice forum discussing the Beep. I have a good feeling that the Beep isn't from the MagicJack, but it is from those users who have a Google Voice account and are either calling out or receiving calls from their Google Voice number linked to their Magicjack. It seems like Google might be aware of this, but no set fix has posted.

Linking this problem back to the June or July starting timeframe, I would say that could correlate with Google Voice being released to the public. Below is the link the Google Voice forum.

I am just curious as to how many users on this particular topic have a Google Voice account. I seem to think I never get the beep if I just call out using my MagicJack. However, when others call me using my Google Voice number and I am talking on my phone connected to my Magicjack I sometimes hear the beep. I do recall hearing the beep when I was talking on my mobile phone, which is linked to my Google Voice account. That is what really got me wandering.

Your thoughts????

My thoughts? In most cases unrelated to GV.

In most cases it is related to the age old problem of DTMF Talk Off, which is not terribly uncommon in the VOIP world. That's why it's just crazy enough to exist on both GV and MJ.

I'm basically just chiming in because at least I've found a group that shares my problem!

I picked up my magicjack a bit before Christmas this year. At first everyone I spoke to told me how great it was, how clear the call sounded.

After a short while, I started getting complaints about beeping, first from family members and then in a more professional situation (which was incredibly embarrassing).
I have looked at all the options without finding any promising solutions and I'm really frustrated by this, hearing people complain about the beep is just as annoying as the beep itself!!!

I really wish magicJack tech would do something about this problem, though I suppose that's a vain hope considering how many have been dealing with this issue for far longer than I have... ... ...

I know earlier I said i thought the beep issue was tied to Google voice, well I don't think that is exactly the case. I am still getting beeps when someone calls me directly to my magicjack number, not even calling my Google Voice number. I don't know if having my magicjack number linked to Google voice makes a difference, even though when someone calls, they aren't calling my Google voice number. Just a thought.

Anyways, I did basically what ramystyle did and I still get the occasional beep. I was testing this calling from my mobile phone to my magicjack number and pretty much sort of sing "lalalalalalala" at a certain pitch. I am able to hear beeps on mobile phone, but not on my magicjack, yet I see the numbers show up on the magicjack dial pad screen. One time I saw 4's, other times it is 8's or #'s. I think unchecking the Pin option might help but didn't completely fix the problem. I will reboot my Thin Client and try calling it again and test some more. There has to be an easy fix.
