After several months of the device working fine, and after a couple of weeks of not using it, I discovered last night that I had this same problem. Calls initiated through the softphone work correctly (voice path verified in both directions). Calls initiated from a real phone do not work. The behavior is as if magicjack is unable to detect DTMF digits from the real phone. Digits are dialed and continuous dial tone is heard.
I spent over 4 hours on the chat line with Sydny, Andre, Sydney, Howard, Jordan, Maynard, and finally Janna. All were very professional, but each session ended in them having me try a step that required a reboot (thus ending my chat session and causing me to have to begin again with another person who would review my previous ticket and have me try new things).
After the 3rd hour, I slept a bit and headed to work where I plugged magicjack into a new computer, using a new analog phone and cord, and obviously using a new networked location to reach their servers. The result was the same: softphone works, real phone does not. The customer care people reformated the device, reset everything on my side and theirs, remapped the drives and had me to countless tests until I was repeating the same tests over again. I've tried powered USB hubs and no hub. Nothing makes a difference. To me, its purely based on the DTMF detection algorithm running inside the device; for some reason, it has decided not to work.
Janna, the last support person told me to try one more reboot and that if that did not work, return the device to my local retailer for replacement. They could not offer a replacement if the unit was bought at a retailer (only if it was purchased through their webpage).
I'll update again later... |

| Ok, so I took my magicjack back to Walmart in its original packaging (with receipt). Walmart exchanged it for a new one. I contacted the chat support line at magicjack, and they transferred my account settings to the new device. And IT WORKS! I'm back in business. Proof that the original device (purchased in August) had gone bad. Good luck to all. |
