|
|
Just got off the phone with an expert in VOIP security and he confirmed that
for those who know how, it is extremely simple to look at the data between
your computer and the server and to use that specific client info to program your
own voip boxes or use voip phones.
I have yet to speak to anyone who has actually done this.
If you know how to do this PLEASE PM me.
I will be extremely grateful to have this info.
I'm really sick of the negative features such as limiting one magic jack
to each computer, the necessity of having a "thin client" or dedicated computer
for each magic jack and of course the endless popups that rob you of working time
every time you start up your computer.
I'm really looking forward to the day when I can use my magic jack on my nice voip phone
and never see the popups again.

At one time, it was easy enough to use a program like Wireshark to capture such data. And even now, you would probably get most of what you needed using that method. But what you definitely would NOT get would be the password which Magic Jack uses to log you in. And that's a 20 digit encrypted password, so it would take forever to crack it.
Some around here claim they have another way of acquiring the right info, but it hasn't worked for me yet. |

| If you do a search on this board for SIP information you will see there are a lot of other people who would like to get that information as well. I have heard that a few people have found a way to crack the 20 digit password, however I have never actually seen the details of how to do it. I would like to acquire the SIP information to use on an ATA device so I no longer need a dedicated box to run magicjack. Good luck and let me know if you find a way to crack the SIP info. |

caudill22, after spending many hours with some excellent help, I was unable to get to the password. One poster alluded that the password is in a normally hidden windows file. I've given up. I've returned my magic jack for a refund, thats another story! MagicJack have a "return" button that does not work. Their visa card office number does not answer until after 11:00 am Florida time.
Their Return address is:
PO BOX 6846
West Palm Beach
FL 33405
Their "billing department" phone number is
561-594-2140
Just wait 30 days after they should have received it and
contact your credit card for a reversal.
Note MagicJack play "the visa game"
they use every trick in the book to avoid a return
and every trick under the rules to avoid a refund.
It appears that only a very small percentage of those attempting
to cancel in the first 30 days actually get a refund. |

ramjet555... I go out of my way to try and be respectful on this forum, but IMO, your posts are over the top.
While you try, in vain, to impugn the integrity of Magic Jack, you are willfully, overtly, and knowingly posting requests for help to violate your TOS with MJ.
I'm glad you are returning the product. Now, I only hope you go away. Quietly. Back under the rock from which you were hiding. |

Darkman90808, Nonsense, My complaint about magicjack is simply I don't like FRAUD.
MagicJack have a fraudulent 30 day offer that they very obviously don't intend to genuinely follow through on.
In reality, they use so many measures, to keep their address off their site, make it as difficult
as hell to contact them, make their return button not work. they are a fraudulent corporation.
Just add up all the complaints, just LOOK at the sheer number of complaints about MagicJack.
Top that off with their virus like advertizing, their infestation of your computer, the fact
you can't operate magic jack with any normal form of VOIP adapter speaks volumes.
Their complaints outnumber positive posts and its only a matter of time before
those complaints start reaching the press who have been stupid enough not to
check out this corporation whose ethics stink. |

ramjet555, I notice your response completely obviates your culpability and failed attempt to violate the TOS.
So, if someone does something you don't like, it's okay break your contractual agreement with them?

| I'd like to get the SIP info just so I could use MJ service over my Nokia n800. I'd gladly, use an adware MJ softphone for my n800 if they made one. It might happen after they give us Linux support! |

Many of us have been having continued issues with the MJ.
It is more helpful discussing and finding solutions to them, rather than not being able to use it at all. |

I'd also urge everyone to remember that this forum, like any technical forum, tends to attract a lot of posts from people who are looking for solutions to problems -- that's one of the points of a forum like this. People who aren't interested in hacking, plug in their MagicJack and start making calls with no problems aren't likely to post here. Accordingly, the number of people reporting problems is almost certainly not representative or indicative of the the number of people having problems. My bet is that the vast majority of MagicJack users have no difficulties with the product at all (and that had been my experience when I got my first MJ and plugged it into my Vista Business laptop -- it installed and I was making and receiving calls in moments). Getting the MJ to run on a thin client was a learning process, thought it was more about learning the parameters and limitations of the thin client than it was about the MagicJack. Accordingly, when relatively new posters come in here and start yelling about what a crappy product or crappy company MJ is, I not only take it with a grain of salt, I simply don't listen.
Finally, I'd remind everyone that this is a public forum. As with any public forum, posters should be extremely careful about throwing around words like "fraud." I may not be a computer engineer, but I am a licensed attorney. Want to detail your experiences and complain? No problem. Want to claim violations of law? Good luck to you -- you might want to talk to your own lawyer before you do.
Disclaimer: I have no relationship whatsoever with MagicJack, except that I own three MJs and like both the product and service. I also can only provide legal advice to clients, and no one here is my client -- if you need legal advice, retain a competent lawyer. |

Has anyone finally got to use their own SIP device on MagicJack?
Lots of claims but yet to hear or see from anyone who has actually
done this. If you have done this, please PM me. |

| When I plunked down my $40+SH, I didn't have really high expectations given the modest cost. However, while not perfect it has exceeded my expectations, based on its low cost. I got what I paid for, and with that I find it difficult to complain about the occasional problems. |

Speak for yourself. MagicJack is a fraudlent corporation engaged in fraudulent activities by making offers of "free trials" that it has NO intention of honouring. The "play the visa game", that is make it impossible to next to impossible to contact them.
If they agree to refund they don't follow through.
I have never had a more disappointing experience then dealing with Magic jack and its taken a huge amount of time to attempt to recover $40 plus shipping.
You "legal advice" SUCKS.
If you had 3 MJ's on one computer with 3 users, and you are a lawyer, it would cost you a fortune in lost time. |

Hey ramjet555, stop taking your Plavix. Relief will then come soon enough. _________________ "Looking for a new job. I have worked for Adelphia, Enron, Health South, Worldcom, and most recently British Petroleum." |
