ret27m: Yes, I am talking about the Transcend RAM -- there was another post that gave the specific part # and I happened to find it at Newegg while ordering other stuff.
Do you have a T5710 PY705AT#ABA that you have tried with the Mushkin 1GB?
Would love to know before I buy the mushkin memory as well. (The Transcend 1GB is working great in the T5710 PY705AA#ABA)
Thanks in advance if you know. _________________ mj on an as/400

Mine is the T7510 PY705AA#ABA, but mine rejected the transcend 1gb mem...hmm odd, seems to be no rhyme or reason with these things. Does your PY705AA#AA show 00 for ram in the bios? Mine does but in win it shows 1gb just fine. _________________ HP T5710 2gbF 1gbR XPe |

Yes, mine showed :00 in the BIOS but worked fine with the Transcend
(I am running Debian, so I did not try it with Windoze)
PS: When you say "rejected" the Transcend, what did yours do?? _________________ mj on an as/400

I just set up my TC and curious if it will take a 1GB stick so I'll steal one from my wife's Compaq laptop.
I was pleasantly surprised when I got my TC because it seems like I got an upgraded unit or just received one that was improperly tagged. I won a 5700 with 1GHz and 256MB Flash/256MB RAM but I received a 5710 1.1GHz unit 256MB Flash/256MB RAM instead. I would have never known if it wasn't for the pics stroths posted. [A big thanks to stroths]
BTW, I've got the TM8600 processor. I'll send a follow up post once I change the stick. |

Looks like I got lucky again. The 1GB stick works perfectly and it's not even pc2700 RAM. BIOS says 00 but HP System Information lists 1024MB in Memory Slot 1.
I installed Kingston ValueRAM 1GB PC3200 400MHz DDR1 which I bought at Buy.com last month for my wife's laptop. I figured it would be backwards compatible and it sure seems to be.
It looks like Buy.com is still selling it at the same price I bought it last month - $26.99 with free shipping.

Since I now have 1GB of RAM I increased my Z: drive/RAM disk to the max setting of 64MB. Is there any way to increase the RAM disk size to a bigger size, say 128MB? |

noetic1: One of mine was the exact same circumstances -- posted as a T5700 and when it showed up it was a T7510 512/256! (And had the PCI expansion kit). It was the deal of a lifetime ($40).

Good find on this -- I'd recommend you run a memory test just to make abosolutely sure ... I have seen them post sometimes and then freeze. They really are picky about RAM _________________ mj on an as/400

Wow, you got an absolute steal for your TC and I thought I got a good deal.
Quick question, how do you run memtest? I tried to download the various files from memtest86+ but couldn't get them to run and kept getting a drive error after changing the first boot order to USB. |

Not necessarily a quick thing. Options:
1) Setup a CDROM as a USB CD (via a USB <-> IDE cable, approx $14). Configure the BIOS of the TC to boot from USB. Memtest comes on almost all Linux distros, including Ubuntu, SUSE, etc. Burn one of these to a CDR.
This is actually pretty easy to do, if you have a CDROM drive hanging around.
2) Create a bootable USB Flash with Memtest on it.
More convenient, but a bit trickier; in the past, I've created a multiboot USB Flash that had a bunch of tools I could choose from a menu like this. I'll see what I can dig up but it may take me some time.
Hopefully, anyone else can chime in with any other options. _________________ mj on an as/400
